Independence Babies Past and Present

Basseterre, St. Kitts, September 19, 2019 (ZIZ News): On Thursday Prime Minister Dr. The Hon Timothy Harris announced that there were two Independence babies born at the JNF General Hospital.

During his toast to the nation the Prime Minister said “And I want you to help me welcome a young boy born to Kishma Moore at 5:24 am this morning. Our second Independence Baby is a young girl born to Arecia Davis and she came at 6:24 am, one hour apart.

The Prime Minister said he and government minister’s visited the children and they and their families are doing well.

Having visited theme this morning,” he said, “along with the Hon. Eugene Hamilton, our Minister of Health, and Senator Wendy Phipps in the Ministry of Health, I can say to you that both mothers and the children are in excellent health and we wish them well because on them, on this day, every day the special nature of Independence in the future would live with them.”

Meanwhile, ZIZ caught up with the original Independence Baby, Kaya Archibald, who now lives overseas but visits often.

She said being born on Independence Day may have the reason for her spirit as an independent person.

Kaya Archibald was born independent,” she said. “Not dependent. She was born when St. Kitts and Nevis became independent on September 19th, 1983. To me it’s a very historical day and it makes me feel a bit special. Although a lot of people do not know me because I live overseas but I do come home pretty often. More than people think.”

Miss Archibald has a First Degree in paralegal studies, a Bachelors in business management and runs a small business out of her home in New York.

She has been living in United States for the past 25 years.
