Launch Of OECS 40th Anniversary

Basseterre, St. Kitts, March 16th,  2021 (ZIZ News)  The Commission for the Organization of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS), of which St. Kitts and Nevis is a part, has hosted the official launch of the 40th Anniversary of the organization, to present planned activities to commemorate the June 18th 2021 milestone.

Addressing the virtual event Governor of the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank Timothy Antoine congratulated the OECS on Celebrating 40 years of regional integration in 2021.

The Virtual launch also featured the unveiling of the official logo and theme for the anniversary celebration by Alisha Ally of the OECS Commission.

The activities to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the OECS Commission include a virtual Thanksgiving Service; a series of public sector consultations and business focused webinars; the launch of an OECS teachers resource booklet on regional integration; the launch of an OECS Youth Assembly; a development partners symposium; and the premiere of a special bi-lingual production on regional integration captioned “OECS for me” dramatized by the Che Campeche theatrical group.

The OECS was established on 18th June 1981 dedicated to regional integration in the Eastern Caribbean. Seven Eastern Caribbean countries Including St. Kitts and Nevis signed a treaty agreeing to cooperate and promote unity and solidarity among the Members, known as the Treaty of Basseterre, named after the capital city in St. Kitts and Nevis where the agreement was signed.
