New Recycling Facility Opens At Conaree Landfill

BASSETERRE: A new recycling facility opened at the Conaree Landfill on Wednesday, marking a step forward in the Federation’s environmental sustainability efforts.

The facility features a new horizontal baler, that will improve the processing of plastics, cardboard and aluminium, while increasing recycling efficiency and output.

Project manager, Joyce Chang, demonstrated how materials are compacted into bales and highlighted products created from recycled plastic, including fabric items.

During the ceremony, representatives of the Republic Of China Taiwan handed over 32 recycling bins to support community collection, along with 900 t-shirts and 400 shopping bags made from recycled plastic bottles.

Environment Minister, Dr. Joyelle Clarke, accepted the items, pointing to the continued partnership between St. Kitts-Nevis and Taiwan in advancing environmental projects.

Students from the Washington Archibald High School were also present.

The initiative formed part of activities to mark global recycling day yesterday and supports ongoing national efforts to promote sustainable practices.
