No Aquatic Sports This Year

Basseterre, St. Kitts, April 14th 2021 (ZIZ News) For the second consecutive year, the ongoing pandemic will hinder the hosting of the Easter Monday Basil Henderson Aquatic Sports Meet.

Organizer of the event, Cultural Preservationist Winston “Zack” Nisbett joined Tony Nias on Frank and Candid on ZIZ Radio on Wednesday where he shared that after consultation with the National Covid19 TaskForce, the decision was taken to forego this year’s event.

Zack used the opportunity to thank the sponsors who have contributed significantly to the event over the years.

He said while it is disappointing to some that there will be no hosting this year, he will be using this opportunity to prepare for the 65th hosting of the Aquatic Sports Meet in 2022.

He said among other things, he intends to have a statue erected of Basil Henderson who started the event in 1951.

The Basil Henderson Aquatic Sports meet is usually held on Easter Monday and attracts hundreds of spectators and participants for games including the greasy poll, swimming races, boxing, bun on the string and other activities.
