OTI invites international celebrity chef to train employees

(ZIZ News) — The management of the Ocean Terrace Inn began its week long ServSafe Training Course at the Fisherman’s Wharf, to sharpen the food preparation skills of its employees.

ZIZ spoke with the General Manager of the Ocean Terrace Inn, Chris Ghita who said the idea of bringing in celebrity chef, Jeffrey Rotz to train the staff was part of OTI’s efforts to improve employee performance.

“In continuation of our goal and vision to train our culture and the various diversities to cook better, to acquire better skills and techniques for cooking, we have decided to partner with Chef Jeff who is a renowned celebrity chef to do our training for a period of one week. It’s all about improving the culinary skill sets of our employees here at the Ocean Terrace Inn”, Ghita said.

OTI is owned by TDC Group of Companies. Chairman and CEO, Earle Kelly stated that this initiative is a step towards providing better service.

“In addition to our in-house training programs which are conducted by our General Manager, Chris Ghita, we brought this gentleman in who is a very accomplished and experienced chef because essentially we want to improve the product at Ocean Terrace Inn and Fisherman’s Wharf and the only way that the hotel and restaurant is going to improve is by improving the quality of service that is provided by the Ocean Terrace Inn”, the CEO added.

Executive Chef at Fisherman’s Wharf, David Brown said based on interactions with the celebrity chef, he expects a great deal of fun from the course.

“For me it’s a lot of fun and I worked with Jeff in different places, St Vincent, St Lucia, Antigua. He’s very good at what he does and I think everybody is going to have fun with it”, he expressed.

Certified Executive Chef, Jeffrey Rotz told ZIZ about his experience on the island since the training began.

“I came in on Wednesday and I couldn’t get over how beautiful the island was. David, the chef here David Brown took me around the island and gave me a tour, it was just really great. Some of my goals while I’m here is to teach the staff here the basics of food handling and going through the proper flow of food,” he said.

“We want St. Kitts to be known around the world as one of the best places to go as a destination island for the resorts and vacations. We all have the three S’s; the sea, the sun and the sands but we want to know why we want to come to St. Kitts and we want to make sure it’s ready for them”, the celebrity chef explained.

The training ends on Wednesday April 13.
