Police Updates (July 6, 2015)

(ZIZ News) — The Violent Crime Unit (VCU) is investigating the fatal shooting of a known businessman and taxi operator which occurred at Dorset Village, Basseterre on Tuesday 30th June 2015 sometime after 11:00 pm.

Initial investigations revealed that Michael Glasford alias “Illa” of Janet Alley was sitting on a bench when he was attacked by an unknown armed assailant. Michael Glasford was fatally wounded; he succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

In other News: On Tuesday 30th June 2015 sometime after 8:00 pm members of the St. Kitts and Nevis Coast Guard and Local Fishermen of the Dieppe Bay and Saddlers Village embarked on a search at sea for 18 years old Wilson Caines of Dieppe Bay. The search ended sometime after 11:00 pm without success.

Initial investigations revealed that sometime after 6:00 am both men left on a fishing expedition from Dieppe Bay in a small fishing boat. Sometime after 7:00 am the boat was struck by a large wave which caused it to capsize. Both men were submerged in the water and upon emerging from the water the boat was some distance away from them. However, they tried to get to the boat, but, were unable to do so. Christ Dorsette swam to Pogson Bay and summoned help from residents and the police.

The search will continue by local and regional maritime units.

The Maritime Research Coordination Centre (MRCC) out of Fort de France, Martinique, a unit of the French Navy, is continuing the search using air assets. The MRCC began its search and rescue operation yesterday Wednesday 1 July 2015 and will until it is satisfied that it has done a sufficiently extensive search of the possible areas where the Wilson Caines may be found.

Also: The Violent Crime Unit (VCU) is investigating a shooting which occurred at the Circus, Basseterre about 11:45 PM on Fruday 3 July 2015, which resulted in one (1) person hospitalised in serious but stable condition.

Initial investigations revealed that Akeem Chumney of Upper West Bourne Street, and a group of young men from the McKnight area were at Fort Street in the vicinity of the Circus. An altercation occurred with other persons, and a number of gun shots were fired. Akeem received gunshot injuries to his left upper portion of his back, and was transported to the hospital in private transportation.

One (1) person is in police custody in relation to this incident.
