Powell Tours Education Departments

Basseterre, St. Kitts, June 25, 2020 (ZIZ): New Minister of Education the Hon Jonel Powell has committed to assisting various departments within the Ministry of Education fulfill their duties.

He made the comment during a departmental tour on Wednesday accompanied by Permanent Secretary in the Ministry Of Education, William Hodge.

While touring the Charles Halbert Public Library Minister Powell promised to do what he can to improve the library services.

“Nowadays we do take libraries for granted and neglect them and sometimes as libraries we allow that to happen so it would be interesting to have a conversation with you all to see how we can take this library to the next level,” he said.

Minister Powell said these improvements would also include training for the library staff.

“To see how we can really advance the services and even in terms of the capacity building for the staff. That is something I believe in and try to ensure that everybody, that people don’t have jobs for the sake of getting paid but you’re able to develop individually within the field,” he said.

Future plans for the library included moving the Sandy Point branch into a new space at the Sandy Point Community Centre.
