Prime Minister Calls for Urgent Climate Action

UNITED NATIONS: Prime Minister The Hon. Dr. Terrance Drew took center stage at the High-Level Breakfast of Climate Mobility Champions, hosted by the Global Centre for Climate Mobility during the UN General Assembly High-Level Week.

As Co-Chair alongside leaders from Tuvalu, São Tomé and Príncipe, Palau, and Australia, the Prime Minister delivered a compelling plea for climate justice, emphasizing the urgent need to address climate-induced displacement impacting Small Island Developing States (SIDS).

Highlighting a stark injustice, PM Drew noted that nations like St. Kitts and Nevis, among the world’s lowest carbon emitters, face severe consequences from rising sea levels, erratic rainfall, and intensifying storms.

“This is not a distant threat but a daily reality for our people,” the Prime Minister declared, urging global leaders to act swiftly.

He advocated for a comprehensive approach to climate mobility, moving beyond emergency responses to integrate planning, protection, and opportunities into development agendas for vulnerable communities. This vision aligns with the Federation’s commitment to safeguarding its citizens and ensuring sustainable futures amid growing climate challenges.

For St. Kitts and Nevis residents, PM Drew’s leadership underscores the nation’s proactive stance on the global stage. His call to action resonates locally, where coastal erosion and extreme weather threaten livelihoods in tourism, agriculture, and fishing. By championing #ClimateJustice and #SIDS priorities, St. Kitts and Nevis is pushing for equitable solutions and global accountability.

The event marks another step in the Federation’s advocacy for systemic change, urging residents to support local climate initiatives and engage in sustainable practices to bolster resilience against climate impacts
