Queen’s Commonwealth Day Message 2019

(ZIZ News)— On the occasion of Commonwealth Day 2019, Queen Elizabeth II in her capacity as head of the Commonwealth, addressed the Commonwealth of Nations through a written message featured in the order of service of the annual Anglican service in Westminster Abbey held in observance of the day.

The Queen noted that Commonwealth Day has a special significance this year as it marks the 70th anniversary of the London Declaration, when nations of the Commonwealth agreed to move forward together as free and equal members.

She said today, many millions of people around the world are drawn together because of the collective values shared by the Commonwealth, as was seen last year when the Commonwealth member nations attended the Commonwealth Heads of Government meeting at Buckingham Palace and Windsor Castle.

The Queen noted the confidence and optimism in which members are able to look to the future as a result of the links that that are shared, thanks to the networks of cooperation and mutual support to that are contributed to and drawn from.

The Commonwealth is made up of a global network of 53 countries and almost 2.4 billion people.

The theme for this year’s service is “A Connected Commonwealth” which highlights the co-operation between the culturally diverse family of nations who work together in friendship.
