Richard Caines, Renowned Business Man And Former Minister Has Passed

Basseterre, St. Kitts, July 28, 2020 (ZIZ News): Political activist, business man and former educator Richard Caines CSM, JP. has passed.

Renowned businessman, Mr. Caines was also known for his role in Cabinet as the Minister of Finance who served under the first government with the first Prime Minister, Dr. Rt. Excellent,  Sir Kennedy Simmonds from 1980-1993.

His Excellency, The Governor General, Sir Samuel Tapley Seaton GCMG, CVO, QC, JP, LL. D awarded Mr. Caines with the Companion Star of Merit (CSM) at an Investiture ceremony in 2016.

Mr. Caines was recognised for being the most outstanding contributor of the St. Kitts (Basseterre) Lions Club’s over the last forty years, at the club’s awards giving dinner at the St. Kitts Marriott Resort in December 2019.

He recently adopted Dr. William Connor Primary School and celebrated his birthday with the fifth grade students there.

In January, Mr. Caines said that he felt so connected to the children that he decided to host 110 of the students for lunch at his home.

ZIZ understands that Mr. Caines passed on Monday night after battling illness.

He died at 87.
