School Meals resumes

Basseterre, St. Kitts, April 29, 2020 (ZIZ News): The Ministry of Education has announced that the School Meals Programme will resume on Tuesday, May 5th.

The School Meals Programme is reaching out to students who may require the service while schools remain closed as a means of curbing the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic.

During Tuesday’s edition of “Leadership Matters” Minister of Education, The Hon. Shawn Richards explained the process of how parents can use the School Meals Programme.

“Students who are in need of of a hot lunch will be provided with a lunch as of Tuesday of next Week,” he said. “The Ministry of Education has already put out a PSA asking parents to get in touch with either the teacher or principal of the school that the child attends or to visit the schools on Thursday of this week, as we have asked the secretaries to be at each of the primary schools to take the information so that we have an idea as to which students are in need of lunch.”

The lunches will be packaged take-away meals and according to a statement from the Ministry of Education Lunch distribution will begin on Tuesday May 5th from 11:45am to 1:00pm daily.

All persons collecting meals must wear a mask and follow other health protocols. Lunches will not be available on any announced total lock down days.
