SKTU makes presentation to the Children’s ward of the JNF Hospital

BASSETERRE St. Kitts, October 8th, 2012 — The St. Kitts Teachers’ Union – S.K.T.U continues to celebrate a noble and resilient people. The S.K.T.U salutes all teachers this month under the internationally observed theme ‘Take A Stand For Teachers!’ On Sunday 7th October, the SKTU joined the Fellowship of Excitement at the Calvary Baptist Tabernacle afterwhich they visited the children at the Joseph N. France Hospital as one of their outreach events. The Children’s Ward received many educational and recreational resources which nurses state would enhance the hospital internal schooling program.

S.K.T.U’s Public Relations Officer Yvette Herbert opined, “As teachers, our business is children and without children there won’t be a need for teachers. Hence, the S.K.T.U thought it quite fitting to visit our students who are unable to attend school because of medical reasons and bring them some hope and cheer.

We always embrace the opportunity to express our love, care and concern for our students. The S.K.T.U has a track record for organizing community outreach events such as this and the upcoming launching of our Breast Cancer Project dubbed ‘Myrna Project’. So, we thought it best to make this visit to the Children’s Ward at JNF an annual event within our month of celebrations. Also, we wanted the children and their families to know that teachers genuinely care about them, we remember them although they have been absent from school for some time and we wish for them a speedy recovery.

Research reveals that healing comes to the sick even faster when they are loved and have strong support systems so we hope that this visit and sharing of gifts to the children by their teachers can trigger quick recovery and get our students back into the schools where we can continue to mould and shape them.”
