Solid Opening for SKN at CARIFTA

ST. GEORGE’S, Grenada – Day 1 of the 53rd CARIFTA Games at the Kirani James Athletic Stadium saw athletes from St. Kitts-Nevis deliver a mix of solid efforts and encouraging field results as Team Unstoppable SKN began their regional campaign on Saturday, April 4, 2026.

While the sprints proved highly competitive, the throws events provided the Federation’s standout performances, with multiple athletes recording respectable marks and advancing to finals.

On the track, both sprinters exited in the preliminary rounds but showed they can compete at this level. Chesson Liburd ran a strong 10.55 seconds in the Under-20 Boys 100m, finishing just outside the final qualification in 9th place overall. In the Under-17 Girls 100m, Khylinn Prentice clocked 12.02 seconds, placing 13th in her heat.

The field events delivered SKN’s best showing of the day. In the Under-17 Boys Javelin, Malik Freeman produced an excellent throw of 47.09 metres to finish 7th, while Kylan Woods added a solid 42.52 metres for 9th place. This result marked a proud team achievement, with two St. Kitts-Nevis athletes competing in the same final.

In the Under-17 Girls Shot Put, Kezia Phillip placed 8th with a best effort of 11.58 metres, and Ayrian Walters finished 11th with 10.97 metres. Dejhanee Moses cleared 1.45 metres in the Under-17 Girls High Jump to take 11th place. Meanwhile, Naseem Gerald opened his Under-20 Boys Decathlon campaign on a positive note, leaping 5.71 metres in the Long Jump for 8th position in that discipline.

No medals were secured on Day 1, but the performances reflect good preparation and the growing depth of athletics in the Federation.

With two days of competition still remaining, Team Unstoppable SKN has several opportunities ahead. The 400m hurdles, additional high jump competitions, remaining Decathlon events, and other track and field disciplines offer fresh chances for strong showings and potential podium finishes.
