BASSETERRE: The Hon. Lanein Blanchette, Speaker of the St. Kitts and Nevis National Assembly, joined approximately 500 delegates at the 68th Commonwealth Parliamentary Conference (CPC) in Barbados.
Hosted by the Parliament of Barbados and the CPA Barbados Branch, the conference theme, “The Commonwealth: A Global Partner,” emphasized unity and shared values.
Her Excellency Dame Sandra Mason, Vice-Patron of the CPA, urged parliamentarians to uphold Commonwealth principles during the opening ceremony. Key speakers included CPA President Senator Hon. Reginald Farley, Barbados Prime Minister Hon. Mia Mottley, and Commonwealth Secretary-General Hon. Shirley Botchwey.
This marks the second time Barbados has hosted the CPC, the first being in 1989.
The St. Kitts and Nevis National Assembly had convened on Monday October 6, 2025, where Prime Minister The Hon. Dr. Terrance Drew tabled the Eastern Caribbean Citizenship By Investment Regulatory Authority Agreement Bill, 2025. This landmark legislation aims to establish a regional authority to enhance the integrity and oversight of Citizenship by Investment (CBI) programmes across Eastern Caribbean states.
The next sitting of the National Assembly is scheduled for Friday, October 17, 2025, at 10 a.m. at the National Assembly Chambers, Government Headquarters. The session will be broadcast live on ZIZ Radio (96 FM), TV Channel 5 in St. Kitts, Channel 98 in Nevis, and streamed at www.zizonline.com.
