St. Kitts and Nevis Embassy in Taiwan Celebrates 42nd Independence with Historic Patriotic Event

TAIPEI, Taiwan – The Embassy of Saint Kitts and Nevis in Taiwan marked the nation’s 42nd Independence Anniversary on September 20, 2025, with its inaugural Patriotic Programme, highlighting cultural heritage and bilateral ties.

Ambassador Donya L. Francis addressed the gathering, emphasizing this year’s theme, “Perpetual Progress: A Sustainable Future in View.” He underscored the importance of sustainability for small island states and praised the government’s Sustainable Island State Agenda (SISA), launched in 2022 under Prime Minister Dr. Terrance Drew.

“This year’s theme reminds us that independence is not only a moment in history but also a continuous journey. As a small island state, sustainability is not an option—it is a necessity,” Ambassador Francis stated.

Dr. Chen Ming-Chi, Taiwan’s Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, represented his government and celebrated the 42-year partnership between the two nations. He commended collaborations in education, healthcare, and empowerment, while reaffirming Taiwan’s support for St. Kitts and Nevis’ sustainability goals amid mutual respect.

The event featured vibrant performances by St. Kitts and Nevis nationals, many of them students, showcasing folk songs, dances, masquerades, clown folklore, steelpan music, drumming, poetry, spoken word, and a modeling display of national attire and costumes.

The embassy expressed gratitude to all participants, particularly students who decorated the venue, performed, and assisted throughout the celebrations, making the programme a resounding success.
