St. Kitts-Nevis’ Red Cross makes appeal to help Bahamas

The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescents Societies have launched an emergency response operation following death and destruction caused by catastrophic storm Dorian in the Bahamas.

In a national address to the nation on Thursday, Director General of the St. Kitts-Nevis Red Cross Society, Natalie Fough said monetary donations are being sought to help the people of the Bahamas.

The Director General said goods will not be accepted due to logistical issues such as the unavailability of facilities to quickly conduct sorting.

She said the monetary donations received would help to purchase items such as non-perishable goods, baby supplies, cleaning items, bedding, water and sanitary assistance. It will also assist with the feeding and clothing and restoration of homes of persons affected on the islands of Abaco and Grand Bahama in the Bahamas.

Prime Minister of the Bahamas, Dr. Hubert Minnis confirmed that the death toll had climbed to 20 on Thursday September 5 2019.

Persons wishing to assist those affected in the Bahamas can make monetary donations at the Main Branch of the First Caribbean Bank in Basseterre, St. Kitts and Nevis at the Charlestown Branch at Account # 107024305 or at the St. Kitts-Nevis Anguilla National Bank in Account #25401.
