St. Maarten Governor ends familiarisation visit to St. Kitts

Governor of Dutch St. Maarten, His Excellency Eugene Holiday

BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS, JUNE 21ST 2012 (CUOPM) – Governor of St. Maarten His Excellency Eugene Holiday ends a two-day visit to St. Kitts Thursday, after attending a passing out parade at Camp Springfield.

Governor Holiday, whose mother and grandmother were from Old Road, St. Kitts, arrived here Wednesday afternoon.

On Thursday, Governor Holiday paid courtesy calls on St. Kitts and Nevis’ Governor General, His Excellency Dr. Sir Cuthbert Sebastian; Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, the Hon. Sam Condor and Governor of the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank (ECCB), the Hon. Sir K. Dwight Venner.

Governor Holiday also met with Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Education, Mrs. Ionie Liburd-Willett, Chief Education Officer, Ms. Clarice Cotton and Education official, Mr. Quinton before visiting the Irish Town Primary school.

He also held discussions with officials of the National Trust and National Museum and a Representative of the St. Christopher Heritage Society, Ms. Natasha Leader. During a visit to the Brimstone Hill National Fortress, the Governor of St. Maarten also met Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Culture, Ms. Sharon Rattan and General Manager of Brimstone Hill, Mr. Cameron Gill.

Governor Holiday is on the first leg of a series of familairisation visits to Caribbean states aimed at assessing how nations are dealing with the global economic, financial and social challenges.

The Governor was accompanied by Mr. R. Pronk, Acting Director of the Governor’s Cabinet and Mr. P Middelberg, Governor’s Aide.
