BASSETERRE: The St. Kitts and Nevis Senior Women’s National Team battled to a dramatic 2-2 draw against Cuba on Tuesday in their second Concacaf W Qualifiers Group E match.
Forward Phoenetia Browne continued her excellent form, opening the scoring in the first half with a brilliant finish to give the Sugar Girlz an early advantage.
Cuba responded in the second half, scoring twice to take a 2-1 lead and seemingly securing all three points. However, the Sugar Girlz received an unlikely equalizer when Cuba scored an own goal, bringing St. Kitts and Nevis level at 2-2.
The St. Kitts and Nevis Football Association described the result as “a hard-fought point on the road and a performance to be proud of.”
The draw represents an important result for Head Coach Earl Jones’ side after their opening 2-1 loss to Aruba. The team demonstrated resilience by coming from behind to salvage a point away from home.
Browne has now scored in both of St. Kitts and Nevis’ opening Group E matches, establishing herself as a key attacking threat in the qualification campaign.
The Sugar Girlz will resume their qualifying campaign in March 2026, when they continue their pursuit of a top finish in Group E. The group winner advances to the 2026 Concacaf W Championship, which serves as the qualifier for the FIFA Women’s World Cup Brazil 2027 and LA 2028 Summer Olympics.
St. Kitts and Nevis currently has one point from two matches.
