ARUBA: The St. Kitts and Nevis Senior Women’s National Team suffered a narrow 2-1 defeat to Aruba in their opening match of the Concacaf W Qualifiers Group E campaign on Friday night.
Despite the loss, the Sugar Girlz displayed resilience and determination throughout the hard-fought contest at the Guillermo Prospero Trinidad Stadium in Aruba.
Forward Phoenetia Browne provided the highlight for St. Kitts and Nevis, finding the back of the net in the 36th minute to give the team hope. However, Aruba capitalized on their scoring opportunities to secure the victory.
The St. Kitts and Nevis Football Association praised the team’s performance, noting they “battled for every ball, creating chances, and keeping the pressure on until the final whistle.”
Head Coach Earl Jones and his squad walked off the pitch with their heads held high, having left everything on the field in their qualifying debut.
The Football Association emphasized there were “plenty of positives to build on” from the performance, expressing confidence that the team will bounce back stronger.
The Sugar Girlz face a challenging Group E that includes Panama, Cuba, Curaçao, and Aruba. Only the group winner will advance to the 2026 Concacaf W Championship, which serves as the regional qualifier for the FIFA Women’s World Cup Brazil 2027 and the LA 2028 Summer Olympics.
St. Kitts and Nevis will look to regroup when they face Cuba on Tuesday, December 2.
