BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS, JUNE 25TH 2012 (CUOPM) – Resident Ambassador of the Republic of China (Taiwan), His Excellency Miguel Tsao Tuesday updated St. Kitts and Nevis’ Prime Minister the Rt. Hon. Dr. Denzil L. Douglas on ongoing bi-lateral initiatives between both countries.
Ambassador Tsao first thanked Prime Minister Douglas for supporting Taiwan during the recent United Nations High-Level Conference on Sustainable Development before briefing him on the award of scholarships to nationals to study at universities in Taiwan, the ongoing Agro-Tourism Demonstration Farm, the solar lighting of the Kim Collins Highway and the identification of experts including a wind energy and solar specialist.
Taiwan is financing the installation of 100 LED street lights for the Kim Collins Highway and part of the Frigate Bay Road in the first phase of a solar energy partnership.
The lights have been shipped and are to arrive here shortly. Ground works for the solar lighting of the highway will be done by the St. Kitts Electricity Company (SKELEC) and are to begin any time now.
Work is to continue on the new Agro-Tourism Demonstration Farm on 20 acres of land at Sir Gillies following the fencing of the property and the laying of irrigation pipes, construction of a 15,000 gallon reservoir, a two story office building, a work shed and a six room dormitory.
Several students from St. Kitts and Nevis have been granted four and five-year scholarships to undergo studies at universities in Taiwan.
