Teaching Positions Available For Interested And Qualified Persons

The Ministry of Education is inviting all interested persons to apply for teaching positions ahead of the new academic school year.

Applicants who wish to be considered for teaching at the Early Childhood of Primary level must have at least five CSEC subjects, including English Language, Mathematics, A social Science subject (History/Social Studies/Geography) and a Science subject. Individuals who wish to be considered for teaching at the secondary level, must possess at least five CSEC subjects including English Language and the relevant passes at CAPE level or above.

All applicants will be required to attend a two week pre-service seminar which starts Monday July 13 to Friday 24th July.

Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Education, William Hodge explained how beneficial the two week course can be for new persons.

“There’s a 2 week course that is designed to recruit new persons into the teaching profession. Mainly these persons will come from the CFB College; persons who have taken their CAPE subjects; we would also have persons who come from 5th form in high schools who would be interested. We have a number who are wanting to change professions, some persons who might have worked in another field for some years and want to come over to teaching”

Permanent Secretary Hodge explained that online/virtual training will replace the usual classroom activity considering the new COVID-19 regulations that must be adhered to.

He said some of the sessions include sessions on Classroom Management, Lesson planning, conditions of Public Service and the role of the Teacher’s Union.

Applicants who are shortlisted to participate in the pre-service seminar/workshop will be required to sit a literacy and numeracy test.

Forms are available at the Department of Education Services at Stanford Building or the Ministry of Education’s Administrative Office on the third floor of the Cable Building.

Applications must be addressed to the Chief Education Officer, Department Education Services (Stanford Building), Golden Rock, Basseterre, St. Kitts.

The deadline for applications is Friday June 19th, 2020.
