ZIZ News…Nov. 20, 2010 – The Turks and Caicos Islands will host the Regional Top Awards Presentation Ceremony and the 42nd Meeting of the Caribbean Examinations Council on Thursday 2nd December and Friday 3rd December 2010 respectively.
Both the presentation ceremony and meeting of Council will be held at the Beaches Resort and Spa on Providenciales Island.
The annual meeting of the School Examinations Committee (SEC) will also be hosted on Thursday 2nd December at Beaches Resort and Spa.
Dr Beatrice Fulford, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Education will deliver the feature address at the Regional Top Awards Ceremony and Opening of Council on Thursday 2nd December. The ceremony starts at 7:00 pm, and will see the top performers in the May/June Caribbean Advanced Proficiency Examination (CAPE) and the Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC) examination receiving their awards.
Professor E Nigel Harris, Chairman of CXC; Dr Didacus Jules, Registrar of CXC and Mr Nicholas Sammy, winner of the Dennis Irvine Award for outstanding performance at CAPE for 2010 will also address the ceremony.
During their stay in Turks and Caicos Islands, the 17 Regional Top Awardees will pay courtesy calls on His Excellency, Gordon Wetherell, Governor of the Turks and Caicos and Mr Mark Capes, Chief Executive Officer of the Turks and Caicos Islands Civil Service on Wednesday 1st December.
The awardees will also interact with students from high schools in the Turks and Caicos Islands and tour places of interests on the Middle and North Caicos.
This is the first time the Turks and Caicos Islands is hosting the annual governance meetings of CXC. Last year’s meetings were hosted in the British Virgin Islands.
The Council comprises representatives of 16 Participating Countries, the University of the West Indies, the University of Guyana and the teaching profession. The Council deals with Finance and Administrative issues, while the SEC deals with technical and examination issues.
