Basseterre, St. Kitts, October 5th , 2020 (ZIZ News): Unicomer Courts St. Kitts donated several pieces of personal protective equipment to the Ministry of Health in St. Kitts during a handing over at the Wednesday October 7 NEOC briefing.
The donation comprised 4 pieces of Mabé Aero boxes. The boxes are made of clear acrylic and aim to reduce the aerosolized particles escaping into the environment when intubating patients with COVID-19.
Country Manager, Trudy Lewis-Allen made the presentation on behalf of Courts.
“Unicomers is pleased to be able to donate personal protective equipment in the form of a Mabé Aero box to the Ministry of Health in St. Kitts. We are trying to do our part in the fight against COVID-19. With that said, we would like to donate 4 or 5 PPE’s to the Ministry”, Lewis-Allen stated.
Medical Chief of Staff. Dr. Cameron Wilkinson thanked Courts and accepted the donation on behalf of the Ministry of Health, frontline workers and doctors at the health institutions. He then explained how helpful the equipment would be especially for anaesthesiologist and those working closely with potentially infected patients.
“I want to say how grateful we are for these aero boxes. They might appear simple but they are significant healthcare equipment that can protect the lives of the healthcare workers in that when one is doing any intubation where you’re putting a tube into the persons lungs and there is a risk of aerosols that are being generated that can be filled with COVID-19 particles, these boxes if they are placed over the persons head while the anaesthesiologist is working, it will tend to protect the persons who are in the close vicinity, so we thank you very much for these 5 pieces of equipment”, the Medical Chief of Staff expressed.
Dr. Wilkinson assured that the equipment would be deployed in the Emergency Room on the private ward where the COVID-19 patients will be housed, as well as the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and the Operating Room.
