On Monday officials of the the National Emergency Management Agency met with representatives from power, water, telecommunications and other related agencies for a meeting of the National Utilities Subcommittee.
According to NEMA Planning Officer, Oureika Lennon-Petty the Utilities Subcommittee is one of ten National Disaster Sub Committees which have been encouraged to remain active and complete all disaster plans.
She said the goal of the meeting is to ensure that the member agencies can work together efficiently in the event of a natural disaster. It also allowed them to address issues that arise and the best way to tackle them.
“We noticed that there were some gaps in terms of when the initial cleanup is done, some damage happens during that cleanup,” she said. “So then we realized that there needs to be some sort of conversation between the public and private parties involved.”
The National Utilities Subcommittee is chaired by Nicole Agard.
