BASSETERRE – A successful orthopedic diagnostic clinic at J. N. France General Hospital brought hope to 20 children from St. Kitts and Nevis facing mobility challenges.
The event, hosted Friday, February 13 by the Pediatric Assistance League of St. Kitts and Nevis (PALS), featured top specialists from Shriners Children’s Hospital. Led by award-winning Pediatric Orthopedic Surgeon Dr. Eric Gordon, the team included nurses Melissa Eagan and Christi Abeln, physical therapist Donna Griffin, and orthotist Jacob Mattingly.
Local Orthopedic Surgeon Dr. Hendrickson collaborated with the visitors, supported by the hospital’s Outpatient Department nursing team. The clinic evaluated children with various orthopedic issues, paving the way for life-changing surgeries in the region or the US.
“This clinic paves the way for a number of our PALS children to be accepted for life changing surgeries regionally and in the US in the near future,” PALS stated, highlighting the most impactful revelation.
PALS emphasized the clinic’s role in identifying surgical needs and following up on last year’s patients. The specialists donated suitcases of pediatric orthopedic equipment to local physical therapy teams.
PALS expressed deep gratitude: “Thank you to our visiting specialists, World Pediatric and our PALS donors for making a difference in the lives of our children.”
The team volunteered their time and holidays, underscoring their commitment. Such clinics are vital for improving children’s quality of life through early diagnosis and consistent care.
