Youth Parliament Debate Held as Part of Youth Month Activities

Basseterre, St. Kitts, November 27, 2019 (ZIZ News): The St. Kitts National Youth Parliament Association (SKNYPA) held its National Youth Parliamentary Debate sitting on Wednesday morning in commemoration of youth month 2019.

Thirteen young persons from St. Kitts and Nevis between the ages of 13-30 participated in Wednesday’s debate.

The youth parliamentarians debated two resolutions, namely a resolution proposing constitutional amendments to transition St. Kitts from a constitutional monarchy to a republic and proposed changes to replace the Governor General with an executive president whereby adopting the Caribbean Court of Justice as St. Kitts and Nevis’ final court of appeal.

The debate also included a resolution which sought to establish a fund for ex-convicts, ex-gang affiliates and at-risk youth to start legitimate businesses and innovative programs focusing on Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics.

The sitting took place at the National Assembly Chambers Church Street Basseterre.
