Basseterre, St. Kitts, November 05, 2020 (SKNIS): With the festive season fast approaching, Superintendent of Police Cromwell Henry is reminding citizens and residents of St. Kitts and Nevis that all social activities have been suspended unless one applies for approval and written permission is given by the Commissioner of Police.
At Wednesday’s (November 04, 2020) COVID-19 briefing of the National Emergency Operations Centre (NEOC), Superintendent Henry, quoted the regulation prohibiting persons from hosting, attending or visiting any social activity in a public place. He explained that a public place covers any space, whether indoor or outdoor, privately or publicly owned, which is accessible to the public via payment, or invitation, whether expressed or implied.
“Whether you are having it (an event) in a place that is in public like in the square or in Warner Park or you are having it at your home, whether in your house or in your yard, it becomes a public place as long as the public is invited, and so you require permission,” the senior police officer stated.
The letter requesting permission to host an event can be submitted at the Basseterre Police Station or emailed to officeofcommissioner@police.kn. Superintendent Henry noted that the Police Force will simplify the process for persons to apply.
“We are working on a website where persons can apply online to reduce contact with anyone bringing or picking up a letter and so very shortly, we are launching this website,” he stated.
]]>Basseterre, St. Kitts, September 04, 2020 (RSCNPF): The Commissioner of Police is sending a strong warning to persons who insist on hosting illegal events.
Despite several calls from the Police and the National COVID-19 Task Force for persons to apply for approval for events and to advertise such events only after the necessary approval has been received, event organisers, entertainers and business operators are doing the opposite.
“These illegal activities not only contravene the current Emergency Powers COVID-19 Regulations, but they have the potential to put the health of patrons at risk. As such events continue to be brought to the attention of the Police, a zero tolerance approach will now be taken to anyone who breaches the Regulations in that area,” Commissioner Hilroy Brandy said sternly. “We will not only shut down the event, but those responsible will also be charged.”
Section (6) of the Regulations speak to the restriction on social activities. It states that “No person shall host, attend or visit (a) a private party; (b) a wedding, subject to regulations 5 and 10; (c) a banquet, ball or reception; (d) any other ceremony in any facility or public place; (e) a funeral, subject to regulations 5 and 10; (f) a meeting of a fraternal society, private or social club or civic association or organization; (g) any public beach, subject to regulations 5 and 11; or (h) any other type of social event, except with the written permission of the Commissioner of Police, in consultation with the National COVID-19 Taskforce.”
The penalty for a person who contravenes or fails to comply with the Regulations shall be liable on summary conviction to a fine not exceeding $5,000 or a term of imprisonment not exceeding six (6) months or to both and to forfeiture of any goods or money in respect of which the offence has been committed.
]]>NIA CHARLESTOWN NEVIS (May 28, 2020) — Mr. Hilroy Brandy, Commissioner of Police in the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force (RSCNPF) is urging the public to avoid participating in motorcades leading up to the June 5th general election, as a safety precaution, mindful of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Commissioner gave the advice while making a presentation at the National Emergency Operations (NEOC) COVID-19 daily briefing on May 26, 2020, in St. Kitts.
“Presently the High Command has granted permission to both parties on St. Kitts to advertise their party, and to give notice as to their party’s position by using just four vehicles. We are now realising that both parties are abusing this privilege, and more and more persons are joining those motorcades and causing a problem for the organisation, and endanger themselves and other persons.
“We are not out of the woods when it comes to the pandemic. We still have persons in quarantine. We are not sure what will be the outcome when the 14 days are up and they are tested. So we are asking the general public not to join in those processions that the various parties are being granted to go around the island and sell their party’s position. So please, cooperate with the police. You are saving your own life and you are saving the life of your fellow citizens by not getting involved in doing motorcades,” he said.
Mr. Brandy noted that St. Kitts and Nevis continues to be in a state of emergency, and political campaigns cannot go on as normal.
“We are asking for your help at this time. We are presently in a state of emergency and it is very unusual that we are having a general election in a state of emergency. Therefore, the normal campaigning cannot be as normal as previous general elections. So therefore there will be no outdoor public meetings and there will be no motorcades allowed,” he said.
A state of emergency was declared in the Federation on March 28, 2020, by His Excellency Sir Tapley Seaton, Governor General of St. Kitts and Nevis to protect citizens from COVID-19.
]]>Basseterre, St. Kitts, May 27, 2020 (SKNIS): Commissioner of Police of the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force, Hilroy Brandy, recognized several stakeholders for their commendable work during the fight against the COVID-19 Pandemic.
“I want to take this opportunity to thank the rank and file of the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force for their hard work during the past two months. I also want to thank the members of the St. Kitts-Nevis Defence Force, our sister partner, for its partnership with us and to make sure we have safer streets and communities,” said Commissioner Brandy during the NEOC COVID-19 Daily Briefing for May 26, 2020.
Commissioner Brandy also recognized the Ministry of Health for their meritorious contributions to St. Kitts and Nevis during the pandemic.
“I also want to thank the Ministry of Health both in St. Kitts and Nevis for their excellent performance over the last five months. I think without that type of work from the Ministry of Health we would not have the success we are seeing in St. Kitts and Nevis today,” he said.
The commissioner also expressed heartfelt gratitude to the general public for their continued cooperation with the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force.
“Also, I wish to thank the community both in St. Kitts and Nevis for the support given to the police. The community has been very helpful to the police, and, as a result of your cooperation with the police we are able to see as of today’s date our crime statistics improved over last years’ figure at the same which stands at 45 percent reduction and this can only be possible because of the help we got from the community,” he said.
]]>Basseterre, St. Kitts, May 26, 2020 (SKNIS): With Nomination Day slated for Wednesday, May 27, 2020, Commissioner of Police of the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police, Hilroy Brandy, is appealing to citizens and residents to stay clear of the nomination stations as no whistle stops or motorcades are permitted on this day.
“As you are aware, tomorrow is Nomination Day and the High Command – the police – has not granted permission to any political party for any whistle-stop nor motorcade during Nomination Day. There will be no motorcades nor whistle stop,” said Commissioner Brandy during his appearance at the NEOC COVID-19 Daily Briefing for May 26, 2020. “It would not be business as usual where both parties normally hold whistle-stop or motorcade after or before nomination. This would not be accepted by the police on Nomination Day tomorrow.”
Commissioner Brandy used the occasion to appeal to the general public to cooperate with the police.
“So please, I want the community to cooperate with the police and do not join in any procession once your name is not on the list to go to the nomination station to nominate the candidates. I want to thank you for your cooperation and please continue to work with the police so we can have a safe and free general election,” he said.
The General Election in St. Kitts and Nevis is slated for Friday, June 05, 2020.
