]]>Basseterre, St. Kitts, January 11th, 2020 (ZIZ News) There is still more to be done to further enhance the Dorsett community park.
That is according to Resident of Dorsett, James “Barman” Hanley who was speaking at a recent handing over ceremony of maintenance materials and equipment from Parliamentary Representative for Constituency #2 Hon. Jonel Powell at the park on Friday.
He said improvements such as the resurfacing of the basketball court is needed as it was never resurfaced since it opened in 1980.
“Yes Mr. Minister we have this contribution but we need a couple more things a couple more things for the children, you know we have the slides and so forth but some more things for the kids. In here is now used for the Soca fitness, almost 100 women would be in here trying to get fit. Since the court started in 1977, open in 1980 we have never resurfaced that court so that’s something for you to think about Mr. Powell….but that’s the other thing that we need to do maybe some resurfacing, something to enhance.”
Hanley attributed the upkeep of the park over the years to the closeness of the community.
“The development of this park started in 1977 in terms of building the court and the stands and so forth and then you see we have enhanced the whole product, we have the meeting room, we have baths and toilets here and they are properly kept and they are kept because we are a closely knitted community and we don’t see people vandalizing the place and just leave it like that.”
This is the second donation for the park’s maintenance, earlier in the week the Governor General donated a lawnmower.
