Basseterre, St. Kitts, September 03, 2020 (HMP): The three (3) men who were remanded to Her Majesty’s Prison (HMP) for their involvement in a smuggling operation have all tested negative for COVID-19.
The men received their second test, which was carried out by officials from the Ministry of Health, on Friday, August 28. This date marked the end of the 14-day period following their illegal entry into the Federation. However, they are set to remain in a designated area away from the general population at the Prison until next week.
Every individual sent to reside at HMP are held in the designated area for 14 days, even if they were in quarantine prior to entering the prison. The men were remanded on Tuesday, August 25. This measure is taken out of an abundance of caution to safeguard the health of the staff and residents at HMP.
]]>Basseterre, St. Kitts, August 27, 2020 (ZIZ News):Nine members of the federation’s security forces are in quarantine following a recent smuggling operation at Palmetto Bay.
That is according Divisional Commander for District A, Superintendent Cromwell Henry who said it was done as a precautionary measure.
“Presently from that smuggling operation we have up to about nine members of the security forces who are in quarantine, not that we are saying that they contracted the virus but as a precautionary measure because they came in to close contact with these persons we have to take all the precautions and not take any chances less other officers become exposed unnecessarily.
Superintendent Henry was at the time speaking on Thursday’s episode of Policing with You.
He spoke of some of Covid-19 protocols in place to ensure the safety of the officers while on duty.
“We could take the basic minimum precautions that we advise everyone else -wear your mask, wear gloves where necessary, do as much as you can to cover your nose and your mouth but inevitably the police will have to come in contact with individuals at some point and we can only hope that these protective measures that we take – wearing the mask in particular work.”
Superintendent Henry said the officers in quarantine are from the St. Kitts and Nevis Defence Force, Customs, Coast Guard and Police.
He also said that the persons who were remanded were tested and the test results came back negative.

]]>Basseterre, St. Kitts, August 25, 2020 (RSCNPF): Three of the men held in the smuggling operation at Palmetto Bay were remanded to Her Majesty’s Prison on Tuesday, August 25.
Captain of the boat, Norton Hanley of Boyd’s Village, was charged for the offences of Smuggling, Illegal Entry and Entering the Federation without Written Permission. The passengers, Juan Jose Cuesta, a national of The Dominican Republic and Enrique Torres Rojas, a national of Venezuela, were each charged for the offences of Illegal Entry and Entering the Federation without Written Permission. They were charged on August 20. The fourth individual who was taken into custody was released without charge.
Acting quickly on information received on August 14, from a concerned citizen, The St. Kitts and Nevis Coast Guard and The Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police were able to thwart the smuggling operation. The vessel, which is called ‘Black Kings’ is registered in St. Kitts and Nevis. It was seized by the Coast Guard.
