15 Officers Complete Surveillance Course

(ZIZ News) — The Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force continues to benefit from the relationships established with regional and international agencies.

The latest example came in the form of a Discreet Surveillance Techniques and Shadowing Course that wrapped up at the Police Training Complex on Friday.

The course was held in collaboration with the Inter-Departmental Anti-Drug Training Center out of Martinique.

Deputy Commandant of the Police Training Complex, Inspector Eldrin Dickenson said this course, coupled with the recently concluded Investigative Interview Course, is a demonstration of the Force’s commitment to personnel development.

“I am happy to say that we are building our resources in human capacity thus broadening our skills in the fight against criminal activity. This course came at the right time as we have rolled out our six point plan,” he said.

Honorary Consul of France to Barbados, Captain Don G. Chee-A-Tow, who was also one of the course’s facilitators, spoke of the importance of continuous training by law enforcement.

“We saw over the last week from the reports that there was a great need for training. We must train and we must train continuously,” he said, adding that “Recurrent training is the only thing and the only thing that drives me is the participants. They are on the frontline to defend this country and the citizens and the tourists. Without the tools in their basket to do that, they don’t stand a chance.”

He added that cooperation at an international level is also critical in the fight against crime.

“It is all too obvious that crime crosses borders and unless the international community work together to tackle international cartels, they stand no chance of disrupting their activities. It is therefore imperative, where possible, to assist each other by sharing resources, information and expertise,” he said.

“However, the global effort to fight transnational crime will only be a success if each and every country plays its part. That means every country must strive to implement robust legislation and a strong, well-resourced and trained criminal justice system – from Coast Guard all the way to the court,” he added.

Also addressing the ceremony was Acting Commissioner of Police Stafford Liburd who commended the 15 officers on successfully completing the course.
