Andrew Williams, said to be a “dangerous individual”, was found guilty in Snaresbrook Crown Court of rape and causing grievous bodily harm to the 42-year-old victim. Williams has been placed on the Sex Offender Registry in the UK for life.
“When you finally let her leave, she was in a desperate state. The beating that you handed out to her was so extreme her own sister could not recognise her,” said the presiding judge.
Williams was living in Clapton, northeast London, at the time of the offence.
The court heard he had been in a relationship with the victim for a month before he became violent towards her.
On January 31, the court heard, Williams lured her to his mother’s home in Upper Clapton, where for three days he subjected the victim to repeated and sustained violent assaults, beating her with a chair leg and his belt buckle, while his mother and sister were in an adjoining room.
Williams told the court that the victim had come to his mother’s home to get her hair cut and stayed because it did not come out well and she did not want to be seen.
The victim said she had sex with Williams, but did so only out of fear for what would happen if she refused. When she was eventually free on February 2 she called police and Williams was arrested later that day in nearby Stoke Newington.
“Andrew Williams is a dangerous individual and the sentence reflects the seriousness of his offending,” said Detective Constable Kevin Christou, from Hackney’s Community Safety Unit.
“Officers continue to support the victim and I am hopeful the sentencing of Williams will … help her to move forward to rebuild her life.”
