Call for monument to commemorate the Buckley’s Riot

Basseterre, St. Kitts, January 28, 2020 (ZIZ News): As the Rastafari Nyabinghi Thoecracy Order commemorates the 85th anniversary of the Buckley’s Uprising which took place on January 28th, 1935, persons within the federation are calling for a monument to be erected in honor of the historic event.

During the most recent edition of Frank and Candid on ZIZ Radio, host Tony Nias also made the call for a monument which he said has been requested for many years.

Nias spoke of the significance of the riot, noting that the event sparked similar uprisings across the region.

In celebration of the 85th anniversary of the Buckley’s Uprising, a ceremony was held at Buckley’s site on Tuesday.
