Basseterre, St. Kitts, March 18, 2020 (ZIZ News): Prime Minister, Dr. Hon. Timothy Harris and cabinet members were joined by health officials to update the residents of constituency number 6 on the Coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak at a special edition of the “Vision 2020 And Beyond” town hall meetings held at Newton Ground Primary School on Tuesday.

Addressing the gathering, Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Hazel Laws provided the latest information regarding the status of the virus as well as recommendations on how to prepare and protect one’s self from the virus.

She said that the outbreak of COVID-19 will affect various areas in society noting that a unified approach would be needed to combat the virus.

Dr. Laws spoke of the recently organized Covid-19 National Task Force who is tasked with updating and educating citizens and residents in St. Kitts and Nevis with accurate information about the virus.

She said now is the best time to educate persons on the virus when it is not yet in the Federation.

Dr. Laws reported on the number of confirmed cases across the Caribbean but has maintained that to date there are no confirmed cases in St. Kitts and Nevis.

She however warned that the risk of the virus reaching the Federation is very high.

The “Vision 2020 and Beyond” Town Hall Meetings form part of the government’s anniversary activities.
