Basseterre, St Kitts, 17 May 2013 – As part of the continued plan of action of the World Bank Grant to strengthen the institutional capacity of the Institute of Chartered Accountants for the Eastern Caribbean (ICAEC), executive members and accounting professionals of the ICAEC from six ECCU member countries will participate in workshops at the ECCB Headquarters in St Kitts and Nevis from 27 – 31 May.
There will be two workshops; the first being a Dissemination Workshop for Executive Members of the ICAEC over the period 27 – 28 May. The purpose of this workshop is to finalise the Operations and Quality Assurance Manuals and Business Plan. The Executive Members will examine the practical application of the manuals and business plans and provide feedback which will be used to finalise the documents. Following the workshop, the regional branch councils will be expected to disseminate the manuals and business plans to their members. This process is scheduled to be completed by July 2013.
The second workshop scheduled for 29 – 31 May will be geared towards accounting and audit practitioners and will focus on the International Standard on Quality Assurance 1 (ISQC1). The ISQC1 is the international control mechanism for practitioners that conduct audit and review of financial statements among other accounting responsibilities. The objectives of this workshop are to train accounting practitioners in the adoption of ISQC1 and to provide practical guidance towards compliance with the standard and the ICAEC quality assurance programme. Discussion topics for the workshop include: Ethical Requirements and Human Resources. During the workshop participants will be involved in hands-on sessions comprising plenary instructions, group discussions and case studies.
Consultants Professor Zeljko Sevic an accounting and finance educator and Mr Anthony Pierre a partner with Deloitte and Touche, Trinidad and Tobago will conduct the workshops.
