Set a winning target of 241, with the entire final day and all of their wickets intact, the Leeward Islands Hurricanes went out about the chase in a very business-like manner after being set back initially at the start of their innings.
Skipper Devon Thomas, provided a good platform for the chase with a composed and responsible knock of 57. Steve Liburd, who was the top scorer in the first innings, was again asked to play a major role. He, along with Rahkeem Cornwall, held the innings together with an unbroken stand of 141. However, the star of the chase was Rahkeem Cornwall, who has certainly made a case in addressing the West Indies selectors.
Cornwall brought up his century and the team’s second consecutive win in fine style by hitting two consecutive sixes. Cornwall was left not out on 101.
Commenting on the team’s performance, President of LICA, Auckland Hector expressed his delight with the result. He was particularly happy with the team’s bowling and paid homage to Rahkeem Cornwall, who has been performing with both bat and ball. President Hector said: “It just goes to show that with commitment and perseverance, you will have good outcomes.”
At the same time, the President took the opportunity to offer congratulations to the top batsman and bowler. Captain Devon Thomas, was the Leeward Islands’ top batsman, scoring 473 runs with a highest score of 99 not out, and an average of 24.89. Second in the batting for the Leeward Islands was Rahkeem Cornwall, who scored an aggregate of 357 runs, including one century and 95 against Jamaica.
Fast bowler Gavin Tonge, was the top bowler. He ended with 30 wickets at an average of 20.06 apiece. In second place was all-rounder, Rahkeem Cornwall with 29 wickets at an average of 26.93.
