Basseterre, St. Kitts (CUOPM) — The construction of the a bulk facility by Delta Petroleum, next to the old Sugar House, Bird Rock, and the planned relocation of the company’s regional headquarters from the British Virgin Islands to St. Kitts are signs of confidence in the Government and the People of the Federation of St. Kitts.
“Delta executives have stated that St. Kitts is the only island in the region on which they would consider establishing a bulk storage facility at this moment, because ours is the only island with the level of economic activity that would make such an investment, in the current global environment, a wise one. This is good for us. It is good that there is tremendous confidence that is being displayed by Delta Petroleum in the Government, in the People and in the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis and that I believe is good,” said Prime Minister the Rt. Hon. Dr. Denzil L. Douglas at Friday’s Ground Breaking Ceremony.
He told Delta executives, employees and invited guests that his St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Party Administration is steadfast in its determination to establish this solid reputation within the global business and financial community.
“We are pleased that Delta Petroleum has taken note. It was on this basis that we agreed to enter into negotiations with Delta and are pleased.
He noted that Delta Petroleum now has a presence in Anguilla, St. Maarten, Montserrat, Tortola, BVI; and in Nevis.
“These operations are managed from their headquarters in Tortola, BVI, but in light of the economic activity that is both underway in St. Kitts and Nevis, as well as the economic activity which objective analysts have projected for our island, Delta Petroleum has decided to move its headquarters from Tortola, BVI to this site here on St. Kitts,” said Prime Minister Douglas.
He thanked Regional General Manager, Mr. Bevis Sylvester; Managing Director, Mr. Vernon Lake and Chairman, Mr. Spiros Molanas “for their full confidence in what we are doing here in St. Kitts and Nevis to the point where they are prepared to invest their money of their company.”
The St. Kitts and Nevis leader emphasised that the energy sector is one of the new emerging productive sectors that his government has targeted for future sustainable development and with the competition in the fossil-based petroleum products, “we intend to continue to ensure and electricity generated there from is not only reliable in supply, but also affordable for the benefit of the people of St. Kitts and Nevis.”
“My Government therefore looks forward to working with Delta Petroleum in the months and years ahead in order to advance the interests of our Nation, and I extend congratulations to Delta Petroleum on behalf of the Government, the People of St. Kitts and Nevis, in its new and expanded presence here, a very warm and special welcome,” said Prime Minister Douglas.
