PM’s lecture series to address heart health

Basseterre, St. Kitts (SKNIS): “Predicting and Reversing Cardiovascular Disease” is the focus of this year’s Prime Minister’s Lecture Series which is scheduled to take place Saturday, September 13, from 6 – 9 p.m. at the St. Kitts Marriott Resort.

Traditionally, the Prime Minister’s Lectures took place during the month of June, however, on this occasion, the new date enabled the series to be added to the activities of 31st St. Kitts and Nevis Independence Celebration. Annually, Independence Day is publicly acknowledged on September 19.

The Lecture will also commemorate Caribbean Wellness Week which is observed after the second Saturday of September. The week was launched by the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) in 2011 in an effort to translate commitments from the United Nations Political Declaration on Non Communicable Diseases (NCDs) in the Americas.

The presenter for this year’s Lecture is Dr. Arthur S. Agatston, a preventative cardiologist and the best-selling author of the South Beach Diet Book Series. He is also the Medical Director of Wellness and Prevention at Baptist Health South Florida.

As customary, the Lecture is a collaborative effort between Prime Minister the Right Honourable Dr. Denzil Douglas, Minister of Health Honourable Marcella Liburd and Baptist Health International.

The general public is invited to go out and hear about the latest in preventative heart health as well as the latest technology available for addressing heart complaints. Dr. Agatston will be available for questioning following his lecture on Saturday, September 13, 2014.
