Taiwan’s all-female Musou Band

BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS, OCTOBER 28TH 2011 (CUOPM) – Residents of St. Kitts and Nevis are in for a musical treat on Sunday when Taiwan’s all-female Musou Band performs at the Auditorium of the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank (ECCB).

Taiwan’s Resident Ambassador to the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis and the Federation’s Minister of Culture, the Hon. Marcella Liburd will jointly host the one-night performance.

The two-hour traditional music and dance performance by the all female Musou Band begins at 7 p.m. Persons with tickets are urged to be seated by 6:45 p.m.

Since forming over two years ago, Musou Band has traveled extensively in Taiwan and has been invited to perform on a number of TV shows.

The Musou Band also played to packed concert halls in Guatemala and the Dominican Republic, where their performances captivated both the Chinese-speaking and local communities alike.

Composed of top female players who majored in Chinese music at college, Musou Band specializes in Chinese-style music. The girls use the dizi, liuqin, yangqin, sanxian, xiaoruan, zhongruan, pipa, yueqin, guzheng and erhu instruments, as well as the cello, percussion and vocals, to unleash their unlimited imagination and narrative style. The result is a new form of traditional music that is heavy with emotion.
