Revered Principal, William Vincent Hodge, to be Honored in New York City

Mr. William Vincent A. Hodge, a past Principal of the Sandy Point High School, now the Charles E. Mills Secondary will be among four distinguished honorees at the Third Annual Awards Banquet to be held this summer by the Sandy Point Benevolent Society, Inc.(SPBS) in New York.

The revered principal who has earned the title of “Mr. Clarke” in the Sandy Point and neighboring communities, and indeed, the wider Kittitian society, will be presented with the Distinguished Alumnus and Leadership Award in recognition of his sterling and memorable shepherding of staff and students of the Sandy Point High School during the period 1991- 2000. Mr. Hodge, a product of the Sandy Point High School, is recorded in the history pages of his alma mater as the FIRST past student to take the reigns as Principal. As the 6thin line of distinguished school leaders to head this institution, he is long remembered by stakeholders in educational and other circles for having transformed the school, in record time, through his dynamic and visionary leadership. Mr. Hodge is especially celebrated as the fearless headmaster, and the selfless giver of his time and energy to ensuring order and discipline, school pride, high student achievement(especially in areas of academics and sports), and ultimately, his deep commitment to the cause of nation building.

The Awards Banquet will be held at the Eastwood Banquet Hall in the Bronx, New York, on the night of Saturday, August 31, 2013, under the distinguished patronage of His Lordship, Sir Hugh Rawlins, retired Chief Justice of the Eastern Caribbean Supreme Court, and Lady Rawlins. Keynote speaker will be Dr. Spencer Amory, a national of St. Kitts-Nevis and noted surgeon now residing in New York. It is anticipated that a large gathering of Kittitian patriots will be present at this auspicious event.

Mr. Hodge is the first awardee to be announced by the Sandy Point Benevolent Society. He is an active member of the organization, having joined in 2003 – one year after taking up permanent residence in the United States. After serving in the capacity of Secretary from 2004 to 2010, he assumed the position as President of SPBS from 2010 to 2012. Currently he serves as the organization’s Vice President. He lives in Maryland where he teaches middle school Language Arts and Reading, and works as an adjunct professor at a local community college.
