Basseterre, St. Kitts – 7th August, 2013–Just days before departing the Federation for the IAAF World Championships, where they won a bronze medal two years ago, Kittitian sprinter Delwayne Delaney is confident that the relay team could repeat the feat.

In an interview with SKNVibes, Delaney said his sole responsibility will be competing in the 4x100m relay and they are again aiming for success.

“Personally, I am running the 4×100 and it is a collective group, but we are definitely looking for a medal. We know how sweet it was in 2011 when we won the bronze and we definitely want to repeat that feat in 2013.We are aiming for a medal.

He also commented on the team’s preparation and chemistry ahead of their departure for Russia.

“We are well-prepared and well-tuned in. We are currently on camp meshing and working together as a unit. The team is really working off of each other in terms of sharpness, and I think we are in good fitness shape and in good spirits and ready to go.”

When asked if he is confident of the team defending its bronze medal, Delaney responded by saying, “We know that persons were saying that if this did not happen then it would not have taken place. But we want to prove them wrong and try and get those medal positions as well. We are definitely looking forward to going out there and repeating that feat.

“We are very confident. The persons we have on the team are much faster than in 2011 and that is a good sign. We have had a lot of practice, unlike earlier up in the year when we travelled to Mexico. So we really have been focusing on the relay and we know that we will do a good job.”

Delaney also reminisced on the recent Olympics.

“I did not get a chance to run at the Olympics. I was there but I didn’t get a chance to run at the Olympics, but I am scheduled to run at the World Championships.

“It was a great experience! This thing only comes around every four years and only the elite get to represent their country. And seeing all the other superstars and seeing how everything is organised and everything is operated was a real good experience.”

Six athletes and two officials were selected to represent the Federation at the IAAF World Championships in Moscow, Russia, slated for August 10-18.

The six athletes are Antoine Adams (100m, 200m, 4X100m Relay), Jason Rogers (100m, 4X100m Relay), Lestrod Roland (200m, 4X100m Relay) Brijesh Lawrence (4X100m Relay), Allistar Clarke (4X100m Relay) and Delwayne Delaney (4X100m Relay).
