Hamer to join Leeward Islands in Jamaica

Cul De Sac–The Leeward Islands selectors have chosen St. Maarten Colin Hamer to join the Leeward Islands Hurricanes for the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) Professional Cricket League (PCL) four-day match whom begins in Jamaica on Friday.

Hamer is making a return to the Leeward Islands team after his debut in 2006.

After being the leading wicket taker for the Leeward Islands three-day tournament for two years in a row, Hamer known for his big-turning leg breaks and disconcerted bouncing deliveries has been given another chance to prove himself on the regional scene. Hamer who is a leg spinner, collected 21 wickets in total against Anguilla and St. Kitts, this year. Against Anguilla his match figures were 10 for 114 and 11 for 158 against St. Kitts.

Hamer is joining the team after three rounds. He could take the place of left-arm spinners Yannick Leonard from Anguilla or off-spinner Jacques Taylor from St. Kitts who have both been struggling to make an impact with the ball. Both have played all three matches and their tournament bowling figures, so far, are as follows: Leonard 58-5-198-2 and Taylor 79-12-233-6.

The Leeward Islands have lost all three matches and are sitting at the bottom of the table on seven points. The points table shows Guyana on 39, Jamaica Franchise on 34 points, Barbados Pride on 27 points, Trinidad Red Force on 23 points and Windward Islands Volcanoes on 22.

The selectors have also included Steve Liburd from St. Kitts and Rakheem Cornwall from Antigua and Barbuda for the fourth round match. Those three players will replace Akeem Saunders, Anthony Martin and Taylor who were dropped from the team. Hamer, Liburd and Cornwall are booked to depart St. Maarten to join the rest of the squad in Jamaica this morning.
