Sharma hits second consecutive test hundred

(Sports) It was a day when the main focus was on a possible century for the star of the show, Sachin Tendulkar but to the chagrin of the partisan crowd, he was well caught by Captain Sammy off the bowling of Deonarine for 74.

However, Pujara continued his fine test run by securing a ton and late in the innings, the ultimate star was Rohit Sharma, who put his name in the record books alongside great players such as Lawrence Rowe; Alvin Kallicharan and Sourav Ganguly, by scoring consecutive centuries in his first two test innings.

What was absolutely amazing about the latter part of his century, was the fact that he shielded the number 11 batsman Shami through a partnership of 65 runs, during which Shami scored just one run

They shared in an eventual partnership of 80 runs.

Sharma then completed his century with a huge six and thereafter even Shami freed himself with a couple of boundaries off the bowling of Shillingford.

Shillingford, even though expensive, was again the lead bowler for the Windies team, getting 5 for 179. He could have had the wicket of Sharma before he got his century but after the catch was taken, it was realized that he had bowled a no ball.

Captain Daren Sammy was superb in the field, taking no fewer than five catches.

The West Indies, facing an imposing deficit of 313 runs, commenced their second innings with 15 overs remaining in the day’s play.

They have started very shakily as Kieran Powell holed out to long off with only 21 minutes of play remaining..

Tino Best joined Gayle in his role as night watchman but after two lusty blows he was dubiously sent leg before wicket to Ojha.

Daren Bravo then joined Gayle and after hitting two boundaries then went caught off the bowling of Ashwin.

The West Indies closed the day precariously placed on 43 for 3 still needing all of 270 runs before forcing India to bat again.

The prospects look very bleak.
