SK Woman Promoted To Sergeant Major

A daughter of the soil has been promoted to Sergeant Major after 21 years of service in the US Army.

Sergeant Major Mona Walters also known as Sandra was born in Basseterre, Saint Kitts.

Her civilian education includes a high school diploma from Basseterre Senior High School an Associate in Business Administration from Camden County College, a Bachelor Of Science Business Administration/Human Resources Management from Columbia Southern University, and a Master’s in Business Administration/Human Resource Management from Columbia Southern University.

During a video of her being presented with her new rank Sgt Major Walters said she was proud of her Kittitian roots.

My Family is not here today but I know they are here in spirit,” she said.

Waving the national flag of St. Kitts and Nevis Sergeant Major Walters said “Yes I’m proud to be an American citizen but I will not forget where it all started. Basseterre, St. Kitts, West Indies. And that is where we come from”Walters enlisted into the United States Army through the Philadelphia Military Entrance Processing Station in March 1999 as a human resource specialist.

She attended and completed basic combat training and advanced individual training at Fort Jackson, South Carolina, as a personnel service specialist.

Sergeant Major Walters resides in Fort Bliss Texas and has one son Alexton Walters
