Eighteen-Year-Old Female Sprinter makes debut appearance as a National Athlete for St. Kitts and Nevis

Basseterre, St. Kitts—8th July, 2013–Female Junior Athlete Omhunique Browne made her debut appearance as a member of Team St. Kitts and Nevis at the 24th CAC Senior Championships in Morelia, Mexico on Friday 5th July 2013.

In her opening round of the female 100m, Browne placed 3rd behind Charles of Dominican Republic and Ferguson-McKenzie of The Bahamas, in a time of 11.45 seconds. Her 3rd finish earned her a spot in the finals of which she ran and placed 6th with a time of 11.68 seconds.

Immediately after her race, the eighteen-year-old sprint sensation expressed on her Facebook page her optimism about her next event, which is the female 200m.

Also competing in the 100m were Jason Rogers and Brijesh Lawrence. Jason won his heat with a time of 10.18 seconds edging out Warren Fraser from The Bahamas to comfortably advance to the finals. Brijesh Lawrence failed to advance to the finals after finishing 6th in his heat with a time of 10.43 seconds. Rogers placed 5th in the finals with a time of 10.24 seconds.

Lestrod Roland competed in the men 400m, but failed to advance to the finals after placing 7th in his heat with a time of 48.17 seconds.

The evening climaxed with the heats of the Men 4X100m semi finals, which saw the St. Kitts and Nevis male quartet (Allistar Clarke, Lestrod Roland, Delwayne Delaney and Brijesh Lawrence), finishing 3rd in their heat with a time of 39.68 seconds.

Day two (2) of the competition will see our men vie for our 1st medal at the championships in the finals of the 4X100m. The action would then continue on day three (3) when National Champions Antoine Adams and Omhunique Browne challenge their competitors in the 200m and Massi Jeffers in the 800m. Allistar Clarke will also be competing in the 200m.
