Nevis Squad To Be Reduced Shortly

Sports Page – Monday 17th June 2013– Nevis’ Cricket chief, Keith Scarborough on Sunday 16th June, indicated that the Nevis Cricket squad, currently in training, will be reduced shortly. He noted that the selectors were set to meet either last evening or early this week in order to put together the final fifteen players who will represent Nevis in the upcoming LICA tournament, set to commence in early July.

A trial match was played on Sunday 16th with approximately 20 of the players showing up but a full match was played of 40 overs duration.

The details are sketchy but team A under the captaincy of Adelvin Phillip, batted first and scored 112 with Andre Browne top scoring with 36 and Adelvin Phillip getting 24.

Philo Wallace with his off spinners got 2 wickets and left arm spinner Theron Bussue also looked very impressive.

Team B under the captaincy of Kejel Tyson was bowled out for a close 108.

As the tournament approaches, there are some concerns with the Nevis team. The bowling looks as if it will hold its own but the top batsmen are not staying long enough at the crease. Some of the dismissals look particularly careless.

It is however hoped that during the few remaining weeks of preparation, everyone will get their act together in order to construct a really competitive Nevis team this year.
