WI Women open New Zealand tour with win

Lincoln, New Zealand — The West Indies women’s cricket team have opened their tour of New Zealand with a 52-run win over Canterbury in a one-day warmup match.

The tourists used the match in Lincoln to prepare for a three-match one-day international series against the White Ferns, starting on Saturday. The teams then contest a four-match Twenty20 series.

Canterbury restricted the West Indies to 218-5 off 50 overs at Lincoln Green on Thursday, with opener Kycia Knight (64) and Stefanie Taylor (57) both recording half-centuries.

The home side managed 166-7 in response, held together by 49 to Erin Bermingham.

Wickets were shared between the visiting bowlers, with the most miserly figures of 0-5 off six overs recorded by pace bowler Shakera Selman.
