27 Students Return To SKN from Jamaica
BASSETERRE – The Government of St. Kitts and Nevis is pleased to confirm that twenty-seven (27) students studying in Jamaica have arrived safely home today, October 26th, following their evacuation coordinated by the Prime Minister’s Office in response to the threat posed by Hurricane Melissa.
This emergency operation, executed with efficiency and compassion, was made possible through the generous assistance of Mr. Lyndon Gardiner, Chairman of InterCaribbean Airways, and his dedicated team, who provided safe transport and ensured the well-being of the students from departure to arrival. The Government expresses its profound gratitude to Mr. Gardiner and the InterCaribbean team for their unwavering commitment and partnership during this critical operation.
The Government of St. Kitts and Nevis also extends sincere appreciation to Prime Minister the Most Hon. Andrew Holness and the Government of Jamaica for their invaluable support and cooperation throughout the process. Their swift facilitation, coordination, and commitment to regional partnership ensured that our students received every necessary assistance on the ground. The Government further acknowledges the efforts of Jamaican officials, airport authorities, and university representatives who worked tirelessly behind the scenes to make the evacuation smooth and safe.
Special thanks are extended to Mrs. Rodina M. Reid, Honorary Consul for St. Kitts and Nevis in Jamaica, for her tireless on-the-ground support and coordination. Her responsiveness and care were instrumental in safeguarding the well-being of our nationals. As well as to the students and their families for their patience, cooperation, and trust throughout the evacuation effort.
The Government reiterates its steadfast support for all its citizens abroad. For those students who have remained in Jamaica, the Government has ensured they are safely accommodated and are in regular contact with our officials.
