Roseau, Dominica (CMC) — The hearing of a convicted murderer Sherman Webb, a Dominican who was found guilty in 2012 and sentenced to life in prison, has been adjourned until November.
On Monday, Webb appeared before the Eastern Caribbean Supreme Court (ECSC) that is sitting here.
He was found guilty of the murder of University of the West Indies student, Corey Poleon of St Lucy, Barbados in 2012 and sentenced to life in prison by Justice Bernie Stephenson.
During the trial, Webb told the court that Poleon came to visit him in August of 2009 to conduct “an occult ceremony which involved the summoning of a demon.”
He testified that during the ceremony, Poleon became frightened and a demon possessed his body.
Webb admitted to chopping Poleon on the neck with a cutlass to force the demon to leave his body and then burying the body under the wooden house where they had conducted the ritual after “banishing the spirits”.
Webb then told the court “I do not agree that I killed Corey. He was a friend of mine”.
