Ambassador Mills Mourns Passing of Ethiopian Ambassador to Cuba
Her Excellency Verna Mills, St. Kitts and Nevis’ Resident Ambassador to Cuba, has expressed profound sadness following the passing of His Excellency Ayele Lire Jijamo, the Ethiopian Ambassador to Cuba.
Ambassador Mills highlighted the late diplomat’s distinguished career, noting that Ambassador Ayele presented his Letters of Credence to Cuba’s Vice President, H.E. Salvador Mesa, on September 18, 2024. Prior to his posting in Havana, he served as Ethiopia’s Ambassador to the African Union and the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa in Addis Ababa. His extensive diplomatic service also included postings in Brussels, Cairo, London, and Abuja, reflecting his dedication to Ethiopia’s foreign affairs.
The two ambassadors shared a moment of camaraderie at the recent celebration of St. Kitts and Nevis’ 42nd Anniversary of Independence, where they were pictured shaking hands.
“On behalf of my family, the Excursion group in Havana, and myself, I extend our heartfelt condolences to the Government and People of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, the staff of the Ethiopian Embassy in Havana, and Ambassador Ayele’s family and loved ones,” Ambassador Mills stated. “We mourn the loss of an exceptional diplomat and friend. May his soul rest in eternal peace.”
