ASPIRE Financial Literacy Programme Launches

BASSETERRE: High school students in St. Kitts and Nevis began learning essential financial literacy skills today as the ASPIRE Programme launched its first in-class sessions at Basseterre High School and Washington Archibald High School.

Forms 1 and 2 students participated in interactive workshops led by financial experts from the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank, focusing on practical money management, saving habits, and responsible investment strategies.

The programme, whose name stands for Achieving Success through Personal Investment, Resources and Education, aims to equip young people with critical financial decision-making skills they can use throughout their lives.

Today’s launch builds on preparation work completed in October, when educators from both schools completed a Train-the-Trainers Workshop. Teachers received specialized tools and teaching methods to deliver the ASPIRE Financial Education Curriculum effectively across schools in the federation.

The ECCB facilitators used engaging, age-appropriate activities to make financial concepts relatable to teenagers, moving beyond traditional classroom lectures to create memorable learning experiences.

The collaborative initiative represents a significant investment in the financial future of St. Kitts and Nevis youth. By introducing these concepts early in secondary education, programme organizers hope to establish lifelong patterns of smart financial planning and responsible money management.

The ASPIRE Programme will continue rolling out sessions to additional form levels in the coming months, with trained teachers incorporating financial literacy lessons into the regular curriculum at both high schools.
